Appeal to Pray for Peace
from
the World Methodist Council and its Evangelism Division

One of the things which the World Methodist Council Executive meeting in Sydney agreed was to call the World Methodist Family to pray together for peace on the first Sunday of Advent during this quinquennium, starting on the 2 December 2007.

The Bible verses associated with advent have peace and the recognition of Jesus as the "Prince of Peace" threaded within them. Whilst recognising both that there are other key days of Prayer for Peace and that the first Sunday of December is linked with HIV/AIDS awareness, the Evangelism Division who put forward this proposal did not feel that this call to prayer should be seen as being instead of those things but in addition to them. I think it is important to stress this. The proposition was that "We urge the World Methodist Family on the first Sunday in Advent to join together to Pray for Peace in the name of the Prince of Peace in many tongues".
