GENERAL HYGIENE

Although this guidance remains relevant it will only need to be implemented in exceptional circumstances in view of actions to be taken in relation to the cancellation of public worship and other church activities. Ensure everyone maintains good hygiene at all gatherings. This includes those handing out books, handling money etc. as well as those having direct physical contact with other people.

Alcohol-based hand-sanitiser (minimum alcohol content 60%), or appropriate hand washing facilities in the event of a shortage of sanitisers, should be available at the entrance to the church, with notices encouraging people to use on entry. Baby wipes are not a satisfactory alternative.

  • Provide tissues and bin at the church entrance.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces (e.g. door handles, kitchen work surfaces) in line with government guidance.
  • Only paper towels should be used in toilets, for drying communion vessels and for other washing up purposes.
  • It is recommended that welcome stewards don't shake hands with people arriving for the service. If people do shake hands hand gel should be available to both parties.
  • Cease passing the collection plate around and consider the use of single issue service sheets rather than sharing hymn or service books, encourage people to bring their own books or projecting words via a data projector.
