1 june top of hill in chatham1 june after 66 miles on busy roads south of london

UPDATE: From Canterbury to Sutton via the M25

After refuelling at Faversham, John cycled on to sunny Chatham, the place where he was born. Passing over a bridge on the M25, London's giant orbital road, then around the roads of South London before finally making it into Sutton for the night after a daunting 66 miles.

John says, "Just in case you need it, proof that I am still alive, after an afternoon traversing south London. It seriously improves your concentration mixing with the commuting traffic and some very busy roads and junctions. On top of that, complex navigation using some cycle paths that take you around some traffic hot spots, which are not in the best of condition. Not a journey I would wish to repeat in this heat again. Now for a shower, laundry and a meal to restore the body. Preparation for tomorrow, and eventually a sleep. Blessings everyone". John.

Tomorrow it's on to Guildford and Chichester Cathedrals. Total bike mileage completed is now 1436.

A normal day on the M25

Revd John Kime is taking part in the Cathedrals Cycle Route Challenge, cycling 2000 miles around across England bearing a letter from the Methodist Church's Bristol District Chair, the Revd Dr Jonathan Pye, highlighting the urgent issue of climate change and climate justice.

The letter calls to support actions which will care for creation in a proactive way, lobby the Government which is hosting the COP 26 talks in Glasgow for lasting commitments to care for our planet, and for individuals to take steps 'to tread more lightly upon this earth'.
