Dear Friends,
Having now visited the majority of our 38 Churches across the Circuit (just a few more to go now), I want to take a moment to reflect on the mission we share -- a mission deeply rooted in the heart of the gospel and expressed in the Methodist Church's 'God for All' vision: "A Church which is confident in sharing and living out the good news of Jesus Christ, and which is dedicated to growing flourishing communities of faith and transforming lives and society".
In Matthew 9:35-38, we see Jesus moved with deep compassion for the crowds: "When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the labourers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest".
This passage reminds us that the mission of the Church begins with the compassion of Christ. It is his love for every person, without exception, that compels us to reach out, serve, and share the hope we have found in him.
Here in our towns and villages across Gloucestershire -- whether in bustling streets or quiet rural lanes -- there are many who long for good news, kindness, and genuine community. God calls us to be his hands and feet among them.
Our 'God for All' strategy gives us fresh encouragement:
In the months ahead, may we continue to seek the Spirit's guidance in all we do. Let us be bold in love, generous in welcome, and faithful in prayer. May our churches be places where everyone can find the living Christ and know they are deeply loved.
I invite you to pray with me:
Lord of the harvest, send us out in the power of your Spirit. Give us your compassion for all people. Help us to share your good news, build communities of hope, and bring your transforming love to Gloucestershire and beyond. Amen.
Thank you for your faithfulness and for all the ways you serve Christ and our communities.
May God bless you and keep you always.
Yours in Christ, Jayne
